R.E.A.L. Education – British Chamber of Commerce National Finalists
On Thursday 2nd November, representatives from R.E.A.L. Education collected the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) Education and Business Partnership Award for the East Midlands Region.
Scott Knowles, Chief Executive at East Midlands Chamber, said: “Congratulations to R.E.A.L. Education for going on to achieve further success in the BCC’s regional awards.
“The Chamber awards are the only business awards in the region delivered purely by business for business and are also the only awards which offer the winners the chance to share their stories on the national stage.”
Finger’s crossed for R.E.A.L. Education at the BCC National Awards! All national winners are to be announced on 30 November at a gala dinner at The Brewery, London.
R.E.A.L. Recruitment – make a Change

R.E.A.L. Education are looking to recruit quality team members who share our vision and approach to engaging children and young people who are struggling with mainstream opportunities.

Roles are widely available across the East Midlands and include: Teaching Assistants for Leicestershire and South Nottinghamshire (covering Nottingham City, Broxtowe and Erewash), Specialist Teaching Assistants in English and ICT for R.E.A.L Alternative Provision School. Learning Manager for South Nottinghamshire, Teachers of Maths, English and Science for Leicestershire and also a School Receptionist for R.E.A.L Independent School in Mansfield (maternity cover).

VOTE for the R.E.A.L. Foundation Trust
Trent Barton have opened a public vote to select their Charity Partner for 2018 and 2019 and it would be fantastic if the R.E.A.L. Foundation Trust could be chosen.
The R.E.A.L. Foundation Trust was established in 2008 to support innovative and creative educational solutions for children and young people, between the ages of 5 and 19, who are “lost to learning” and “hard to place”. The Trust looks to invest in, and support, state of the art facilities and creative initiatives that build self esteem and resilience in young people who present with a broad range of challenges.
Being the Charity Partner for Trent Barton would mean that all of it’s team fundraising events and charity focus for two years would be for the benefit of the R.E.A.L. Foundation Trust and the young people it supports.

The R.E.A.L. Future of Music
Music Technology at R.E.A.L. Education has been taken to a whole new level thanks to six new custom-built music-machine computers and the latest music software.
Based at R.E.A.L. Education’s Nottingham Road site, the computer’s house the new ‘Reason 9’ software – the most spectacular piece of digital composition technology available. The engineering software, ‘Cubase’ has also been upgraded to the new Pro 9 version. Together, these technologies allow R.E.A.L. learners to create professional sounding, bang up-to- date recordings that are of an extremely high quality.
Using these tools will give learners further options for their future; either for further education at places such as West Nottinghamshire College or the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies, or with a role within the music industry.
Rob Lyons, Provision Manager at R.E.A.L. Education said: “The technology means that our learners are creating the most up to date, floor-filling bangers imaginable. We currently have a learner who has over 1 million views on YouTube by the alias Dead Critic. The technology we have at R.E.A.L. allows classroom learning to translate into real-life hits – it really is fantastic.”

Learner Voice Progress
The first ‘Learner Voice’ meeting took place at Woodhouse Road in May. Since then, the ideas generated from the group are going from from strength-to-strength.
An activity at a recent meeting included learners creating ten questions to use when interviewing potential new tutors. The learners came up with some funny questions like: “Sing me your favourite song” and: “Tell me a joke” as well as the more serious: “What made you want to work with young people?”
Louise Duckmanton, Learning Manager and Learner Voice Lead said: “Learners tried out their questions by conducting mock interviews with myself and tutor Julie Greenwood. Needless to say I didn’t get the job – ha ha!
“Andrew in year 11 is one of several learners who have put themselves forward to interview potential new staff. We hope that by being a part of the recruitment process, learners will not only feel more empowered, but will also recognise the exceptional skills we require the staff at R.E.A.L. to possess.”
Digital Arts get R.E.A.L.
A learner from R.E.A.L.’s Digital Arts course has been busy creating their latest project – a professional promotional video for R.E.A.L. Education – what it stands for and what it can offer learners.
Jamaal created the promotional video with Neil Kellow, Lead Teacher of Digital Arts using state-of-the-art equipment from scratch in just a few days.
The promotional video just one area of R.E.A.L. Digital Arts. With courses from level 1-4, all learners are uniquely immersed in the atmosphere and operation of a professional commercial digital arts studio – right from the beginning of their course.
Neil, said: “It is a pleasure to be part of the development of R.E.A.L. Digital Arts, where skilled young people can finally reach their potential and are able to succeed in creative industries that have previously been poorly supplied with the proper training.”
Jamaal said: “By coming to R.E.A.L. Education, I now feel I can go way further than I think anyone, including myself, expected!”

RAPS Charity Fashion Night – High Street Fashion at Discounted Prices!
Tickets are selling fast for the R.E.A.L. Alternative Provision School (RAPS) Charity Fashion Show!
The event, to be held at at Blidworth Miners Welfare Social Centre, Mansfield Rd, Blidworth, Mansfield NG21 0LR on Monday 4th December at 7pm, is a great opportunity to buy brand-new high street clothes at discounted prices.
It’s the perfect chance to grab some Christmas bargains! There will also be a bar serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
All money raised from the fashion show and the raffle on the night will go to the R.E.A.L. Foundation Trust. Tickets cost £3 and can be bought from Woodhouse Road or by emailing email@example.com.
Supporting Parents at R.E.A.L.
The R.E.A.L. Parent Group meets online (through our dedicated Facebook group) and face-to-face.
All parents are welcome to our friendly get-togethers. The next face-to-face Parent Group meeting is Friday 15th December at 12.30pm at the Burnt Stump pub, Arnold.
The Parent Group is a brilliant source of support, and meetings are used as a forum for parents to discuss anything they feel they need to – from actions they would like to see happen, to general advice and support.
