WeDo LEGO at R.E.A.L.

R.E.A.L. learners have been using one of the world’s most popular toys to support and enhance their learning.

LEGO WeDo 2.0 is based upon the latest science curriculum and was created to enhance learners’ science and computing skills whilst igniting their curiosity. The resources make subjects and investigations come to life through hands-on tasks, real-world projects and relevant technology that really engages learners.

Learners use a combination of the LEGO brick, classroom-friendly software, and inspiring curriculum-relevant projects that also help to build their confidence – empowering them to ask the right questions, define problems, and design their own solutions.

The LEGO resources are primarily used with Key Stage 3 learners at Blidworth Hub, but are also used regularly on a one-to-one basis and also widely across other R.E.A.L. Education sites.

Chris Hawkins, LEGO WeDo Project team member said: “So many people see LEGO as a toy, myself included. Like other alternative education programmes, LEGO Education puts a lot of weight into the ‘learning through play’ process.

“Although the kit is primarily aimed for use with science and engineering subjects, I believe the resources can be used across the curriculum in most subjects. It’s a fantastic tool for R.E.A.L. Education.”
