Harmless Staff Training

Last month, staff members took part in important continuous professional development (CPD) at Woodhouse Road, delivered by Nottingham-based organisation Harmless.

Harmless offer a range of services and support for self harm and suicide prevention, and provide the tools and training to deal with situations that may arise when working with young people.

30 members of R.E.A.L. staff, including teaching assistants, tutors, learning managers, administration staff and heads of departments signed up to the training which is delivered as a level 2 specialist course.

This CPD offer has been delivered to staff through R.E.A.L’s new flexible approach to training. CPD is delivered throughout the academic year, and each R.E.A.L. staff member has access to 6 hours of paid training, chosen from a wide menu of options.

Angela Stowell, Teaching Assistant at R.E.A.L. Education said: “Our trainer shared a wealth of knowledge and experience and delivered the workshop in an informative and inclusive way – enabling lots of interaction and sharing of views and perceptions from everyone that may be involved in the life of a person who self harms.

“The training certainly gave an awareness to reduce the stigma and stereotype surrounding self harm, and supported us to respond appropriately to self harm. It was a really useful and informative training session – we’re fortunate at R.E.A.L. Education to be able to attend CPD sessions like this one. A huge ‘thank you’ must go to Harmless from all of us.”
