GCSE Citizenship Learners Help the Homeless
In the lead up to Christmas, four R.E.A.L. learners embarked on a project to help people who are homeless.
The project forms the ‘Active Citizenship’ part of the learners’ GCSE in Citizenship. Learners made posters and placed collection boxes in hubs to encourage people across R.E.A.L. to donate food, toiletries and care items.
The donations were made into as many care packages as possible and were wrapped up with a Christmas card, caring message and gift tags to show where the donations came from.
R.E.A.L. PHSCE (Personal Health, Social and Citizenship Education) Lead, Linda Rigley, took the donations to the Canaan Trust in Long Eaton, Derbyshire – that provides shelter for homeless males.
Linda said: “Canaan Trust staff were delighted and commented on the excellent outcome our learners had achieved. They were very touched by the care and kind thoughts that had gone into helping those less fortunate.”
A letter of acknowledgement from Canaan Trust will be received by all learners who were involved.
