Get Farming at R.E.A.L.
R.E.A.L. Farming, based at Goose Paddock in Annesley, provides a bespoke education for learners with additional needs spanning Key Stages 2-5. Set in 11.5 acres of land, the farm provides a perfect venue for the delivery of R.E.A.L.’s ‘farm to fork’ and sustainability programme of study.
R.E.A.L. Farming offers a full progression of courses from Key Stage 2 through to Key Stage 5. Learning is linked to the National Curriculum, and nationally recognised ‘ABC’ qualifications are available for Key Stage 4 and 5 learners.
Learners often use their qualifications as part of their university applications, and have been able to continue their studies at places like Nottingham Trent University and Derby University, with subjects such as animal behaviour, animal care and horticulture.
Learners at the farm are involved in care for animals such as feeding, health checks, cleaning and grooming. They also take part in maintaining and developing the farm site (working on new animal enclosures, repairing fencing, clearing areas of overgrown ground etc). Learners also grow plants and vegetables, maintain growing beds and harvest crops.
Daniel Bedward, R.E.A.L. Farming Provision Lead said: “Goose Paddock provides a peaceful and tranquil setting where our learners can engage with the natural world and learn in a setting very different to the usual school environment.
“Surrounded by nature, farm animals and the visiting wildlife, Goose Paddock affords learners the opportunity to explore and express themselves in a fully inclusive and supportive provision. With social, emotional and positive mental health being at the core of what we offer, we are able to provide a bespoke curriculum and support to suit all of our learners’ needs.”
