R.E.A.L. Annual Staff INSET Day
R.E.A.L. staff embraced new ways of working to take part in their first ever virtual INSET day on 1st September 2020.
After taking into consideration our health and safety risk assessment, it was clear that we would not be able to deliver our INSET day face-to-face this year. However, it was business as usual for R.E.A.L. staff, as we implemented a new plan of action that took our INSET day online!
At R.E.A.L., we have developed a secure virtual staffroom online; we call this StaffHub. The StaffHub has undergone a complete facelift over the summer and this has provided us with the content and space to deliver INSET virtually, via a specially-designed set of online resources. Within our virtual staffroom, staff have access to training videos, virtual meeting hubs, workshops and the R.E.A.L. eLearning portal. We’ve also made it easier for staff to access the new staffroom via their work mobile phones, ensuring that we are delivering the best possible experience.
Staff completed a range of training and professional development on the day, including: the annual safeguarding refresh; functional skills; additional subject specific workshops; key messages from our Directors; and virtual hub meetings. A key topic for discussion was, of course, our Covid risk assessments for each site, which staff were given the opportunity to talk through. At the end of the INSET session, staff were able to use the R.E.A.L. eLearning portal to assess their learning from the day and receive their certificate of completion.
Staff training and development is critical to delivering the best quality teaching at R.E.A.L.
One of our tutors, Imogen Hind, summed up the day perfectly;
‘It was an online INSET but I’ve never felt more connected to my team.’
