R.E.A.L. Ilkeston gets green fingers

Learners at R.E.A.L’s Ilkeston Hub have been putting on their gardening gloves to help enhance the outside area of the building.

Flowers have been planted in preparation for the Summer Fair and a compost box is also up and running, Jo Brown, Teacher at the Ilkeston Hub, said: “Getting the learners involved with the garden and composting engages all sorts of senses. It helps them develop and engage without them even realising they’re learning.”

This hands-on style of learning gives the young people a chance to explore the environment, from gaining knowledge on nutrition to reducing waste to landfills. Jo added: “It’s a great opportunity for them. These tips can help save money and the environment.”

Small changes like this contribute to making a huge global impact, something R.E.A.L. is committed to encouraging.
