Lunchtime sports fun, at R.E.A.L. Nanpantan
A typical lunchtime for most consists of eating, relaxing and aimlessly scrolling through the depths of social media… However, learners and staff at R.E.A.L’s Nanpantan Hub have instead been productively getting fit.
Since the start of half-term, lunchtime has become a time to take part in activities such as dodgeball, tug of war or even a trip to the driving range to play golf.
Kelly Jackson, Learning Manager, explained they normally play different games for around 20 minutes: “It’s going great, the learners now ask in the morning what we’re doing at lunch, and they always want to be on the team against the staff.”
The sessions are run by Erin Reid and Laura Till who are both qualified sports coaches. Kelly said: “They’ve been amazing. We’ve noticed a huge increase in well-being and mental health and a general positivity from the learners in afternoon sessions since.
It’s helped them make friends and encourages staff and learner engagement in a relaxed and fun way.”
At R.E.A.L., we are always looking for new ways to improve both the physical and mental health and wellbeing of our learners. Lunchtime sports are a fantastic and fun initiative that supports the health and wellbeing of both our students and our staff members!
