Out of this world creations
A R.E.A.L. learner has created a fantastic 3D model of the solar system to liven up the science classroom at Sandhills Hub.
Bailey came up with the idea as a way to help him remember the order of the planets in our solar system. His tutor, Hannelore Southern said: “I’m very impressed with Bailey’s creativity and attention to detail. He’s a bit of a perfectionist so he made them as accurate as possible.”
Bailey made the planets out of different coloured paper, mixing green and blue for Earth and innovatively adding a ring to one of the planets so it hangs without touching it, to make it as life-like as possible. The planets are attached to string and pegged out across the classroom.
Hannelore said: “Lots of other staff and learners have come to see it and it’s sparked so many topics of discussion which has been brilliant. Bailey’s been so happy it’s remained in the classroom, this project is something he’s taken a lot of pride in.”
The solar system has already expanded with model space rockets added as the learners have explored the history of the first moon landing. One small step for man, one giant leap for Sandhills…
